NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - The Olympics may be in Rio, but in New York we have plenty of international flavors including on Staten Island.
First up is a taste of Germany at Killmeyer's, which serves up authentic Bavarian specialties. With a storied German history on Staten Island, Killmeyer's Old Bavaria Inn is now one of the last remaining spots still serving classic German fare, including an array of sausages, wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten, and crispy potato pancakes. People don't just come here for the food. With 28 draft lines, there's a wide array of beers on tap to choose from.
Next were heating things up with some tapas at Spanish restaurant Beso. Just a ferry ride away from Manhattan, Beso's Spanish cuisine will have you saying Ole! And if you're not sure what to order, you can’t go wrong with a long list of small plates to choose from.
After narrowing down the options, I enjoyed delicious garlic shrimp, perfectly grilled baby lamb chops, and fried goat cheese balls. And no tapas meal would be complete without some sangria, but Beso puts a twist on it with the sangria martini: red wine, pomegranate liquor, lime juice, Grand Marnier, cinnamon simple syrup, and a cinnamon sugar rim.
Just like that, our taste buds took us on a tour of Europe without ever leaving Staten Island.
