Nassau DA: Dog starved to death

- The Nassau County SPCA is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever starved a dog to death on Long Island, according to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.

Security camera video shows someone dropping off a dog at the Five Towns Animal Hospital in Inwood on Thursday, August 11, at about 3 p.m., the DA said.

The terrier and pit bull mix was severely emaciated and too weak to hold her head up. She also had open sores on her back.

Investigators named her "Terry." Medical staff treated her, but she died of renal and kidney failure, the DA said.

"This innocent animal suffered and ultimately died a painful death because of the heartless neglect of her owner," Singas said. "We will not tolerate animal cruelty and neglect, and I'm hopeful that the public will help us get justice for Terry."
