Tortured Atlanta 3-month-old pup passes away

- Fulton County Animal Services (FCAS) shared an update on its Facebook page Tuesday afternoon to address concerns from the public about the case.

Officials in Fulton County now say initial details of abuse suffered by a 3-month-old puppy were "inaccurate."

An anonymous call came into the Fulton County Animal Services about a three-month-old puppy being tossed over a high fence.

"The puppy had severe injuries and we contacted the Rescue Dogs Rock NYC group to help. The group has contacts here in the Atlanta area and we knew that they would be able to provide help financially to help the puppy get treated," said Karen Hirsch, Public Relations for LifeLine

People all over the country followed Caleb's case and donated to online fundraisers to help generate reward money for information in the case.  Some of the initial public posts about the puppy claimed he had suffered cigarette burns, a skull fracture and sexual abuse.

FCAS, however, said Tuesday those claims were not true.

"We have determined that many of the details regarding Caleb initially shared by concerned citizens were inaccurate," they posted.  "Veterinarians from three separate facilities have examined Caleb. While Caleb’s condition was heartbreaking and severe, the medical reports do not show any broken bones, no report of any cigarette burns, and no report of any sexual assault."

According to the post by animal services, necropsy results for Caleb should be available in a few weeks.  In the meantime the investigation remains open.

"Please know that we are working with the Fulton County District Attorney to do everything possible to see that justice is served for Caleb," they wrote.
