Little penguin chick makes debut at Bronx Zoo

- The first ever little penguin chick to hatch at the Bronx Zoo is now on display.

Born on May 10, 2016, the Eudyptula minor weighed only 25 grams.

The chick's mother and father were brought to the Bronx Zoo from Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia in 2015. This is the first time little penguin chicks have bred in the zoo's more than 120-year history.

Small, with a bluish hue, little penguin chicks are the smallest of the 18 penguin species and native to southern Australia and New Zealand, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
