Former Vice President Al Gore backs Hillary Clinton

- Former Vice President Al Gore is throwing his support behind fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton in the race for the presidency.

Gore, who declined to endorse a candidate during the primary, posted a statement on social media that he will be voting for Clinton, who was First Lady when Gore was vice president. He cited her "qualifications and experience."

Gore, 68, said he will not be attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, although he is a superdelegate from Tennessee.

Gore came very close to becoming president. In the 2000 election, he won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College to George W. Bush when the U.S. Supreme Court halted a recount in Florida.
