Kitten rescued from deep inside drain

- A second cat in as many years was rescued by the Oceanside Fire Department after a 911 call about a 'meow' coming from a storm drain.

Photos of the rescue outside South Nassau Communities Hospital Tuesday night show firefighters using flashlights as they remove the drain cover and lower a ladder to bring the cat up to street level.

"A gas meter was lowered into the hole to check for hazardous gases. Once it was deemed the storm drain was safe a ladder was place into the hole and FF Charles "Chuck" Pedian, while attached to a safety line climbed down and located the kitten," reads a post to the fire house's Facebook page.

The kitten ran off "to live out its remaining eight lives."
