NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Emergency crews rescued a pilot from his seaplane that crashed into the bay in Bayport, Long Island Tuesday. Joseph Cannizzaro, 57, was attempting to fly the plane from the Great South Bay when the pontoon and the left wing caught water. The seaplane then crashed into the water after achieving very little altitude.
A Good Samaritan saw the plane and took his boat out where he tied up the seaplane before emergency personnel arrived, said Suffolk County Police.
Cannizazaro was moved to the Marine Bureau officers' boat. He refused medical attention, said police.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. Cannizzaro was allowed to retrieve the seaplane.
