Giuliani blames de Blasio for homeless crisis

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani blames current Mayor Bill de Blasio for the city's homeless crisis.
In an op-ed piece published Sunday in the New York Post, the 71-year-old wrote “De Blasio's belief that people have a right to live on the streets is inhumane, indecent and dangerous.”

He goes on to claim that as mayor, he removed most homeless people from the streets by providing solutions to their problems.

The former mayor also wrote:

“A city with homeless on its streets is a city that has no love of its people."

On Monday, de Blasio issued this response:

"Homelessness increased by over 40 percent under Rudy Giuliani's watch, and his strategy of chasing homeless New Yorkers from corner to corner is ineffective and wrong. We're focused on comprehensive and constructive solutions around housing permanency, and we've invested $1 billion over the next four years to prevent homelessness, to bring New Yorkers on our streets into shelter, and to help families and individuals in shelter move into permanent housing."
