It's summertime which means it is hot dog time! But now you can think beyond ketchup and mustard starting at Dobbs Dog House.
At this hot dog mecca, it all starts with your typical all beef hot dog. But what goes on next is anything but typical. Think peanut butter, cinnamon, Fritos, a fried egg, and even fruity pebbles! So I had to venture into uncharted territory and try some of the most outrageous dogs. My favorite? The stuffed French toast dog topped with cream cheese, bacon, grape jelly, maple syrup, cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar.
Next up... Hiram's Roadstand in Fort Lee, New Jersey, which has been frying up hot dogs since 1932. Families have been coming here for generations and, true to its roots, the toppings here tend toward the traditional like mustard, relish, and chili.
And right in the heart of Astoria, Queens, New York Dog House is serving up some truly gourmet sausages. Called signature dogs, these sausages are complimented by toppings ranging from pickled daikon and peanuts to homemade chili and avocado. There are so many great options to choose from, and even the delicious sauerkraut here is homemade.
So as you fire up your grills this weekend, here's to making some delicious and adventurous hot dogs that will have you and your family barking for more.
