NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - There's a war being waged on the streets of the Bronx, but unfortunately the fight against opioid addiction isn't contained here.
Traditionally, when you'd say opioids you would think street-level heroin. Today the problem has moved beyond the block to the corner pharmacy where aggressive pain treatment and savvy marketing have introduced pills like OxyContin and Vicodin to homes across the country.
It makes places like places like the Montefiore treatment facility all the more important.
U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray, and a host of other health professional visited Montefiore Medical Center's Wellness Center at Waters Place. There they met some of the success stories.
This center has been praised for its holistic approach to treating patients. Wrap-around care like counseling and social services are part of what makes them successful.
