Lew Leone is the vice president and general manager of WNYW-FOX 5. He is taking to the airwaves with his thoughts on current affairs. It's called "Lew's View." The views expressed are not necessarily those of the station or its employees.
Here is today's Lew's View:
Here at Fox 5 we believe Education Matters and we will continue to shine a light on issues that affect the quality of our Education system.
I do not believe that we have heard enough about Education from New York gubernatorial candidates Carl Paladino and Andrew Cuomo.
In his 250-page manifesto, "The New NY Agenda," Andrew Cuomo frankly glosses over the problems facing the education system in our state.
For his part, Carl Paladino, on his website, does offer more specific strategies and solutions, including: extension of school day and year, consolidation of districts, removal of problem teachers, and the resignation of the entire Board of Regents.
But, in order to make informed decisions voters deserve to hear directly from the candidates regarding their views on education. And we deserve to have our questions answered as to how the candidates will specifically improve the performance of our schools.
I have sent letters to both campaigns offering a full hour any weekday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. for a debate on the issues.
It is my hope that the candidates will accept our offer and give us the chance to hear a lively discussion so that we can make the best decision on Election Day.
