NYPD cop questioned in corruption probe found dead

- A New York City police official was found dead in his car on Long Island on Friday, authorities said.

Inspector Michael Ameri, the commanding officer of the Highway Patrol Unit, apparently shot himself, the NYPD said.

The New York Post reported that authorities had questioned Ameri in connection with the ongoing corruption probes of the department, but it is not clear if he was a target of the investigation.

Ameri was found inside his car, which was parked at a golf course in Babylon. He lived in West Babyon.

The Suffolk County Police Department is investigating Ameri's death.
