100 days to start of Rio Olympics

- Wednesday marks 100 days until the start of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

As the world's best athletes prepare for the ultimate sporting competition, officials in Brazil are dealing with major issues and concerns as to whether the South American nation will be ready in time to host the Games.

A Brazilian official said this week that they were 98 percent ready.

But the country is dealing with crisis on top of crisis including the worst recession in decades, threats of a presidential impeachment and worries over the Zika virus.

Last week, two people died when a new cycling path that was to be used during the Games collapsed into the sea raising concerns about construction standards.

Bacteria-filled Olympic water venues have been cleared of refrigerators, couches and corpses, but only in the areas that will be used by athletes.

Ticket sales are also reportedly sluggish.

Despite all this, the games are expected to begin on Aug. 5.
