Paterson's Fetty Wap plays for hometown crowd

Rapper Fetty Wap performed a free show for kids at his former high school in Paterson, New Jersey.

- It was a great day in Paterson, New Jersey, for hundreds of high school students who turned out to welcome home a local success story: rapper Fetty Wap. He has been breaking all kinds of Billboard chart records all month. But this day he was focused on giving back to the community with a free concert.

The opening acts lit up the stage at Bauderle Field in Paterson, getting the crowd ready for Fetty. I caught up with him at a friend's house before his performance. In the meantime, Paterson Mayor Jose Torres tossed out free T-shirts to 1,200 lucky high school students.

Last summer Fetty was posting his music on his SoundCloud account. But the success of his song "Trap Queen" changed all that. Now he has four songs on Billboard's top-10 rap charts and is nominated for two VMA awards. And his fans are right with him.

The mayor was set to present Fetty with the keys to the city before the show.
