Metro Transit bus driver wins $1 million Powerball, retires

- Metro Transit bus driver Joseph Woods of St. Paul is shifting into full retirement after winning a $1 million Powerball prize. Woods has been working as a part-time driver since retiring from full-time duty in 2007, but a 5-number match on April 9 changed his plans.

Woods called Metro Transit the morning of April 11 to share the news.

“I told them, I’m not coming in anymore. I just won $1 million,” Woods said. “I think that was a good enough explanation.”

Woods says he’s looking forward to having more time to “enjoy the same things he’s been doing.”

The winning Powerball numbers for April 9 were 14-22-23-41-61 and the Powerball was 9.

The winning ticket was purchased at M & H Gas on Arcade St. in St. Paul. The lucky gas station has previously sold a Powerball ticket worth $61.1 million, a $130,000 Gopher 5 jackpot, a $100,000 winning Minnesota Millionaire Raffle ticket, a $100,000 winning scratch ticket and three Northstar Cash jackpot-winning tickets.
