Man slashed, robbed on Bronx subway train

- A man riding on southbound No.2 subway train was slashed in the head and face before being robbed of his backpack, according to the NYPD.

The 26-year-old man was attacked by two men shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.  It happened as the train was pulling into the Jackson Avenue station in the Melrose section of the Bronx.

They say the victim and suspects did not know each other.   Police say the victim is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries at Lincoln Medical Center.  The suspects have not been arrested.  Police did not have descriptions to release.

There have been 899 slashings in New York City so far this year.  That is a large increase over the same period last year.
