NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Americans retiring overseas is more popular than ever now. According to Dan Prescher and Suzan Haskins, both senior editors of International Living, as more Baby Boomers retire, more of them are looking to do so overseas.
Prescher says some baby boomers regret not traveling more and retiring abroad is a way to see the world. He also says some people, it can be a good financial move.
Haskins says Panama and Ecuador have been neck and neck for the last few years for the top two places to retire overseas. She says Mexico and Costa Rica are both still popular, too.
In many of these countries, there are expatriate American communities, but Haskins and Prescher says it doesn't mean they operate like America.
So how do you decide if moving abroad is for you? Prescher says you need to have a good sense of humor, a sense of adventure and have a taste for novelty and challenge.
