Adorable clouded leopard cubs born at Lowry Park Zoo

at Lowry Park Zoo

- Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa has two new adorable and rare additions!

Two clouded leopard cubs, a male and a female, were born at the zoo on Feb. 29. The zoo's animal care team said the mother nursed the cubs initially, but shortly after, she stopped caring for them, so the team stepped in to help.

The cubs are now receiving care around the clock at the zoo's new veterinary hospital.

Over the next few weeks, the cubs will open their eyes, their teeth will emerge and they'll try to move around. They'll eventually grow to between 30-50 pounds and will measure about five-feet-long including their tail.

Clouded leopards are listed as a "vulnerable" species. The parent leopards, "Yim" and "Malee," have lived together at the zoo since they were six-months-old and are part of the Clouded Leopard Species Survival Plan to help conserve at-risk wildlife.

When the cubs get to be several months old, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums will decide on their future home.
