Dr. Devi Nampiaparampil, MD is WNYW-TV/ Fox 5's medical contributor. She provides medical analysis for Fox 5 NY news programs including Good Day NY, Fox 5 News at 5, News at 6 and News at 10.
At the age of 16, Dr. Devi developed a life-threatening viral infection that caused her heart, lungs and bone marrow to fail. After a long and painful recovery. Dr. Devi was inspired to go into medicine. She attended the combined B.A./ M.D. program at Northwestern University. She also obtained an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University so she could better inform the public about health.
After completing her specialty and subspecialty training at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Devi worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs directing and developing programs to treat wounded soldiers with severe chronic pain. Now she runs a busy medical practice, Metropolis Pain Medicine PLLC, in downtown Manhattan. She is also an Associate Professor at NYU School of Medicine.
Dr. Devi has over 50 publications-- including over 20 in the Journal of the American Medical Association. She has won awards from Harvard University, the American Medical Association and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her high school, Ardsley High School, gives out a yearly award in her honor to the graduating student who has shown strength and resilience in the face of overwhelming obstacles.
