NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Emergency personnel responded to the scene of a helicopter crash in a residential area of Long Island.
Newsday reported that two people aboard the chopper were not seriously injured and were able to walk out of the helicopter.
In a photo sent to FOX 5 News by @NYFemalePI, the dark blue helicopter is seen on its side. It appears to be intact.
The crash occurred in the area of Buena Vista Blvd. and E. Alhambra Ave. in Lindenhurst at about Noon.
Audio from air traffic control reveals that the pilot of the helicopter reported engine trouble.
"Mayday, mayday, mayday, helicopter four-lima-echo with engine failure," the pilot said to the tower.
The Academy of Aviation, at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, operates the helicopter, the New York Post reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
