NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Beth Green and Sharon Bond want to get the word out about the warning signs of a heart attack in women. Green was 52 years old when she suffered a heart attack at work. Bond was 47.
"The symptoms in women present themselves entirely different in women than in men," said Bond. "I didn't know I was having a heart attack. I didn't know until I got to the hospital. I had lower back pain. I had pain that went left to right across my back and then up and down my leg. I thought I was having back spasms."
The night before her heart attack, Green was taking a spin class.
"I had a little pain and drank some water," said Green. "I was sitting at my desk, nausous and vomitting. Next thing I know someone said I was having a cardiac event. I was rushed to Bellevue. I had a blockage and an aneurysm."
Some of the warning signs of a heart attack in women are: Pain or discomfort in the chest. Nausea, lightheadedness, vomiting. Jaw, neck or back pain. Discomfort or pain in arm or shoulder. Tightness of the chest. Shortness of breath.
"I had every symptom of a heart attack," said Bond. "You want to call 911 or call you doctor."
