As the owner of, Shiff says there is always a tell-tale sign a bag is fake.

When it comes to shopping for a Hermes, Chanel or Louis Vuitton handbag keep the following tips in mind:

Example: Hermes Birkin bag
A real one costs about $15,000.

A real used bag can run you anywhere from $8,000- $13,000.

"Always check stitching, stamping and hardware. All hardware should be stamped or embossed. Hermes never come with an authenticity card," says Shiff.

Example: Classic Chanel clutch

A real Chanel bag will never have cardboard inside (used to help a purse keep its shape.)

The leather should be not be stiff and hard and it should be easy to open.

A tell-tale sign that Channel bag is a fake: the signature double 'C' logo.

"The C in the reverse position should be under the C that is facing the correct way," says Shiff.

Example: Louis Vuitton bag

Check the color: LV bags have the signature LV color.

Also, they'll always have smooth zippers and be made of good, high-quality leather.

"You can find a real LV bag at a consignment shop that is up to 50% cheaper," says Shiff.
