Tech and food: gluten sensors, cricket bars, indoor gardens

- Food and technology will mix at an upcoming two-day festival showcasing the gadgets that are transforming our food and how we eat.

On June 11-12, 'Food Loves Tech' will take over W. 27th St. between 11th and 12th Avenues, from Noon to 6 p.m.

The family-friendly event is open to the public.

Some of the items on display will be a sensor that tests for food allergies; a protein bar made of crickets and a hybrid home garden.

"(You'll see) things that are coming out in the next year or so," according to Edible, Editor-in-Chief Brian Halwell.

One of those gadgets is the Nima handheld sensor which tests foods for gluten.

Attendees who mention GDNY will receive a discount on admission.
