NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Toys from the upcoming 'Star Wars' sequel went on sale at Midnight. More than 100 toys were expected to be unveiled Friday way ahead of the movie's release. The marketing tactic could prove successful due to the popularity of the movie franchise.
The massive marketing blitz spans all kinds of media and included an 18-hour global “unboxing” streamed live on YouTube.
Sure to be among the items to go first, the LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon.
There is also the Sphero's BB-8 droid toy which is controlled with a smartphone or tablet app and responds to basic voice commands such as “wake up,” and “look around.” It’s just under 5-inches tall and makes Droid sounds reminiscent of R2-D2.
'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is due in theaters on Dec. 18
