NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - What does it take to be a YouTube sensation? Tyler Oakley would know. He took a hobby that started his freshman year of college, turned it into millions of followers and now his success story is told in a new documentary, 'Snervous.'
“It’s a weird thing. For a very certain demographic they get it and another demographic they may not and that’s ok," said Tyler about his YouTube persona.
The movie follows Tyler on an international tour which included 30 stops and several countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the U.S.
"It’s like a variety show. It’s Pee Wee’s Playhouse meets Ellen DeGeneres but hosted by me in pajamas. Everyone came in pajamas. The documentary follows everything that happens for a YouTuber. The movie shows what it’s all about," said Tyler.
While it might seem like a light-hearted viewing experience, Tyler says it's much deeper than that.
"A lot of the documentary shows identity issues. One of the most important things I can do is be unapologetically myself. For me, I’m gay. All of it has been a diary of my life," said Tyler.
