NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Comedian and podcast host Marc Maron is returning to stand-up on EPIX. While his work life may be thriving now, it wasn't always like that.
"I was very depressed before the podcast started. I had been through a couple divorces. I was broke. We're talking 2008 or 2009. I tried very hard. I was respected but you have to sell tickets. What do I do? Before I set the garage up as a studio, had dreams about doing radio from out there. It was dark," said Maron.
That podcast, WTF, has included interviews with celebrities and, most recently, President Barack Obama. In it, President Obama used the 'n' word.
"I don't know that he intended to have that conversation. I don't really do politics. I wasn't there to talk to policy. But because of that horrible shooting that had happened to days before in Charleston, we had to address that. In that moment of anger, to use an example of what progress we have or haven't made, I believe, was impulsive," said Maron.
Marc Maron on Epix airs Friday at 10 p.m.
