NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - New York's movers and shakers turned out for the annual Alfred E. Smith Foundation gala at the Waldorf-Astoria Tuesday night. Among the speakers was former Mayor Mike Bloomberg who took jabs at current Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The roast of sorts centered around de Blasio's touchy relationship with NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Both men were in attendance and seemed to have a good laugh over it.
"Seriously, it's great to see Mayor de Blasio actually in New York City tonight," said Bloomberg. "To get him to show up, his staff told him that the dinner was in Iowa."
Bloomberg described the pair as an old, married couple.
"Despite what you read in the press, Governor Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio are an incredibly close couple," he said. "Like Cain and Abel, Hamilton and Burr, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift."
He said the two "finish each other's anonymous quotes."
The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner has been held annually since 1945. President Barack Obama delivered the keynote address at the dinner in 2012. Organizers said Tuesday night's event raised about $2.6 million for charities.
