NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Four years of research went into FOX News host Brian Kilmeade's new book, 'Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates.'
"It's a forgotten war," said Kilmeade. "After we win the Revolutionary War we have no protection for our ships. We need the Mediterranean to get our economy going. We get to Morocco, Tunis, Algeria, Tripoli, they start taking our ships and enslaving our guys."
Little by little, the U.S. sent in the Marines.
Kilmeade said Jefferson was confronted with a similar situation to what the Obama administration is struggling with: the battle against Islamic extremism.
"What decision are you going to make? Are you going to confront the Islamic extremist enemy who has called you out. Are you going to contain it? Or are you going to avoid it. I think it's the choice we're in right now. ISIS isn't going anywhere," said Kilmeade.
