NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - You must be 21 and over to eat most of the ice cream offered at Tispy Scoop Barlour on East 26th St. in Manhattan. That's because owner and creator Melissa Tavss puts real alcohol in her wildly popular frozen treats.
"Ice cream making runs in my family. Back in the 1800s, my family brought over from Italy to Scotland gelato carts. I was always interested in perfecting my own homemade ice cream recipe. I initially added alcohol to soften it. I started experimenting with adding more alcohol so the ice cream could actually hold the alcohol content."
At Typsy Scoop, your average two-scoops of ice cream is the equivalent to a light beer.
One of the most popular flavors is the Cake Batter Vodka Martini, but the best seller is the Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel.
"If you buy four pints you get a free tote bag. We also have dry ice if people want to bring it back to say New Jersey," said Tavss.
Not all of the ice cream contains alcohol.
Tipsy Scoop opens at Noon. The line starts forming at 11:30 a.m. There are bouncers at the door so you will be carded.
