NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - For eight years in a row, French restaurant Le Bernardin at 155 West 51st St. in Manhattan is the best restaurant in New York City, according to Zagat.
The 2017 restaurant rating guide was released Wednesday. This time around, the system is based on a 1-5 scale.
"The advantage of 1-30 was that no one else had it. The reason we changed it was because most people didn't understand it. They wanted 1-5 because they understood it," said Tim Zagat.
"It's a day to celebrate. I'm very pleased. I'm very happy and today we are going to celebrate with the team," said owner and world renowned chef Eric Ripert.
Zagat writers describe Le Bernardin as "dazzling" and "transcendent."
The review is based on the ratings of 31,000 regular diners.
"That restaurant was visited more than 1,00 times. Three or more people a day rated the restaurant. Eric didn't know who they were. They are regular customers," said Zagat.
Le Bernardin is the first New York City restaurant to be ranked number one in the Zagat guide for eight straight years.
