NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Supermodel Bella Hadid and her mother, reality TV star Yolanda Hadid, are advocates for Lyme disease awareness. Both suffer from the incurable, chronic illness.
On the day she was to receive an award from the Global Alliance Foundation for her work, Bella Hadid says she was ill.
“I’m not feeling that well today. But I am good. I am happy to be here and I am excited,” Bella told Good Day NY co-host and event emcee Rosanna Scotto.
The Uniting For A Lyme-Free World Gala was held Thursday at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.
“There is nothing more helpless than not being able to get your child to a cure," said Yolanda Hadid. "As much as I nurture her and pamper her and give her the right medicine, we still don’t know have a cure. My motivation every morning is to get up and find a cure for my children and the children of the world.”
A lack of government funding for Lyme disease research prompted the Global Lyme Alliance to host the second annual event.
