NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Despite being let go by the NY Giants, former punter Steve Weatherford says he's grateful for the run he's had in the NFL with Big Blue. "It was the four greatest years of my life," said Weatherford.
After it was announced last week that the popular punter wouldn't be returning to the team, Weatherford met with team officials including Coach Tom Coughlin.
“They had the opportunity to tell me their opinion of me and things of how I had positively impacted the franchise. I have never met another man I admire more than Tom Coughlin. They won’t have a bigger cheerleader than myself this year,” said Weatherford.
While his future in the NFL remains unclear, Weatherford says he isn't in it for the money.
"I’ve played this game with passion and energy because I loved it. I’m just very excited and praying for guidance on what I’m supposed to do. I’ve spoken to a few teams. I’m just weighing some options to make the decision what’s best for my family. I’ve got four kids and they’re young. I feel very blessed. Four years as a New York Giant was four years longer than I ever thought I’d play in the National Football League,' said Weatherford.
