NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Actress and singer Marla Maples was married to real estate mogul and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the 1990s.
They share parenting duties for their daughter, Tiffany Trump. They also share a mutual respect for each other and their extended families despite divorcing decades ago.
"I believe family is really important and my daughter is his daughter. I love my step-children also. I always want to find a way to make things work. It's a great family. We don't always agree, but we have to love and support each other," said Maples.
While she has no reservations with talking about her ex-husband, she won't, however, announce publicly if she is supporting him for President of the United States.
"I'm not talking politics. I'll talk about my family. I believe that whatever he sets his mind to do he can do and can do very well. I've known him since I was 20 years old. This is someone I've had a long history with," said Maples.
If there is something she did want to share about Trump, is that he is a parent to Tiffany even during the most chaotic moments of the campaign season.
"During all of this, we lost my mother's fiance. Tiffany was so upset that I actually called her dad. In the middle of all the chaos when you announce you are running for President, he said 'Tiffany, come on over right now. I want to spend time with you.' He took time out of his busy day because she was so hurt and had lost her step-grandfather. When you're a mother who loves her child you're so touched when you see the father no matter how busy step up and be a father," said Maples.
