NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - When actress Jaina Lee Ortiz auditioned for the role of 'Det. Villa' in the FOX series 'Rosewood,' about law enforcement in Miami, she nailed it.
"It was as if I was studying this character my entire life," said Ortiz who is the daughter of an NYPD homicide detective.
Her father, a 22-year veteran of the department, has spent his career solving crimes in the Bronx.
“I felt like it was written for me. I just channeled him, walked in the room and done,” said Ortiz.
When it comes to the nitty gritty of the role, Ortiz likes to get her hands dirty including doing her own stunts.
"It's a very physical role. He’s constantly telling me you’re not holding your gun right," said Ortiz.
'Rosewood' airs Wednesday at 8 p.m. on FOX 5.
