NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Singer Akon and DJ HardWerk have teamed up to create music and change lives in Africa.
The pair along with Shell Oil company are behind a human and solar powered soccer field, the first of its kind in the world, built in Lagos, Nigeria.
"Whether you're jumping or running, as you’re playing on the field it creates energy to light up the field. It really works," said Akon.
The smart energy option is just one of several projects the musicians hope will improve life for the poor of Africa.
Their single, 'Tell Me We're OK,' is another.
"It's the theme song for the initiative we're running for Shell to create brand new options for energy," said Akon.
The idea is to eventually use the same smart technology to power an entire city.
'Tell Me We're Ok' is now available.
