NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - FOX News reporter Geraldo Rivera sat down with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo for a one-on-one interview about her role in the capture of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman and their unusual relationship.
The interview-- 'Beauty and the Beast, When Kate met Chapo,'-- will air on the FOX News Channel Saturday, May 7 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 at 9 p.m.
Del Castillo took actor/director Sean Penn with her to a jungle to meet the drug lord while he was on the run to learn more about the man who was to become the subject of a new movie.
"I think Kate, in her own mind, identified with the real life drug kingpin," said Rivera. "She wrote him a note. She started it. She said if you devoted your tremendous energy to doing good, people would love you."
The correspondence became steamy and flirty based on text messages made public between the pair prior to his arrest.
"We didn't see any crime. We didn't know where he was. We were just trying to do a movie. There was nothing illegal," said del Castillo.
Despite being supposedly on the up and up, del Castillo's connection to the drug lord helped authorities track him down.
The hour-long special also delves into the raid that netted Guzman earlier this year.
During the raid, Mexican marines seized two armored vehicles, eight rifles, one handgun and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher. Guzman was caught after a shootout in the city of Los Mochis, in his home state of Sinaloa. Five people were killed and one Mexican marine wounded.
