NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - As season five of 'Scandal' comes to a close on May 12, actress Bellamy Young is previewing the last two episodes.
"This week's episode is so special. We cried like three times during this table read," said Bellamy who plays 'First Lady Mellie Grant.'
She won't say much about why the cast was crying, but we do know that it's tied to the presidential race.
"It's been a joy to watch our writers be inspired or sometimes thwarted by this political season. It's a crazy time when life is weirder than art," said Bellamy.
The TV series centers on character Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and her work protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping their secrets under wraps.
While Bellamy can't say for sure if two of the shows biggest fans, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, will be watching, Bellamy says it's a must-see season finale.
"I got to see them both again recently. It's so surreal to see the people who make the decisions who change the world. She seems to keep up. FLOTUS opened her arms so wide and she said, "why did you kill your son!" said Bellamy.
'Scandal' airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
