NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Dina Lohan, the mother of actress Lindsay Lohan, says her ex-husband, Michael Lohan, physically abused her during their marriage.
The pair, who divorced in 2007, will appear in the new show, 'Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn' where she makes the explosive allegations and confronts her ex.
“It was actually a very cathartic experience for me. I have been a victim of abuse by my ex-husband. I was hesitant at first because it was a deep, dark secret," Lohan said during an appearance on 'Good Day New York.'
In a preview clip of the show, which Dina Lohan said she had not seen, the Merrick, Long Island native is visibly upset and doesn't want to sit next to Michael Lohan out of "fear."
In the same clip, Michael Lohan denies the allegations and accuses his ex-wife of being equally abusive.
While she acknowledges that a television show is not the best way to seek help for what she says are past traumas, Lohan adds that she is now doing better.
"For me, I have a voice. It’s just bringing awareness. Hopefully someone out in TV land will get help," said Dina Lohan.
'Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn' debuts Wednesday at 9 p.m. on VH1.
