NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Every day, law enforcement officers go to various lengths to help. Sometimes they help people and sometimes they help animals in need.
Earlier this week, New York State Environmental Conservation Officer Melissa Burgess responded to a call about a group of ducklings stuck in a storm drain.
"The caller had noticed a panicked mother duck standing over the storm grate, calling to her stranded ducklings," the Department of Environmental Conservation wrote in a Facebook post.
Several neighbors that had gathered helped Burgess remove the storm drain cover. Then she climbed down into the drain, scooped the chicks into a bucket, and brought them to safety.
Burgess reunited the babies with their mother, "who hastily lead them away to safety in the flowerbeds," the DEC wrote.
