Van Gogh movie created with oil paintings

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Vincent Van Gogh once wrote: "We can only speak through our paintings." And only Van Gogh could speak so distinctly through paint.

The Dutch post-impressionist artist Van Gogh died in 1890. Now his story is to be told in a movie called "Loving Vincent," entirely made up of paintings through his trademark style.

Sean Bobbitt, a producer of "Loving Vincent," said the film is giving the audience a chance to see the world the way Van Gogh did. To do that, each frame of the full-length feature film has to be painted, which means hiring a lot of painters. More than 1,000 artists sent in portfolios from all over the world to work on the movie. 120 artists have been trained so far to deliver a groundbreaking, stunning storytelling format.

There is ingenuity is their storytelling. Van Gogh was not a famous painter while alive, so his subjects were everyday people he knew and who knew him. And so the central character of the movie is the son of a postman, who he painted, only now, trying to deliver a letter Van Gogh wrote just before his death.

It is dramatic telling of Van Gogh's story through a visionary presentation of the world through his eyes.

Needless to say this is not easy work. The first painters of this movie started in January 2015. They continue to bring in more artists.

Producers say they're at the halfway point with the artwork and animation. Hopefully we get to see all they've done by august of this year.
