The Cure announces North American tour; NYC in June

The Cure will tour North America with The Twilight Sad, a band from Scotland, in 2016, lead singer Robert Smith announced online. The tour will encompass 25 dates. The bands will play Madison Square Garden in New York on June 18.

The Cure has been around in one form or another since 1976. Founding member Robert Smith is the one constant. The 2014 lineup was Robert Smith on vocals and guitar, Simon Gallup on bass, Jason Cooper on drums, Roger O'Donnell on keyboard, and Reeves Gabrels on guitar. Smith has not said what the 2016 lineup will be.

Tickets go on presale for New York, Hollywood, and Chicago on October 9, 2015, at 10 a.m. The band said it would announce the full itinerary in January.

Some fans we spoke to were frustrated by past tours, but others said they were psyched. Seraphine Naeymi, 38, of Kansas City, Kansas, has seen the Cure six times and is crossing her fingers that the band will announce Midwest dates.

"I last saw Robert and the boys at the Beacon Theater for their Reflections Tour in 2011," she said. "I was amazed how incredible they sounded and how long they played that night -- over three hours!"
