NEW YORK - "Spring Awakening" is back on Broadway. The musical wowed audiences in 2006, winning the Tony Award for best musical. And it's about to wow audiences again. This time around the show will be performed simultaneously in English and American Sign Language.
We caught up with the cast, made up hearing and deaf actors, backstage at rehearsals. Among them is Oscar and Golden Globe winner Marlee Matlin. Joining Marlee on stage is fellow Golden Globe winner Camryn Manheim, who told us she learned sign language in college.
Set against the backdrop of a repressive late 19th Century Germany, "Spring Awakening" tells the story of young love and self-discovery as seen through the eyes of three teenagers, with a 21st Century twist.
Opening night is set for September 27 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
