Early 'Star Wars' script shows Obi-Wan survives

One of the most pivotal moments in the original "Star Wars" is when Darth Vader cuts down Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Death Star. But an early draft of George Lucas's script shows that wasn't always supposed to happen.

Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew has been tweeting images from his script. He recently posted a few pages from the scene where Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker make a break for the Millennium Falcon in the hanger while Vader and Kenobi duel. The script shows that Kenobi survives the "laser sword" fight with the help of Luke and they all make it off the Death Star.

Lucas has reportedly said in the past that he originally had Obi-Wan surviving but that making him "die" and become a sort of "Force Ghost" made more sense for the story. Also, he wasn't sure a sequel would happen.
