Soccer sensation Carli Lloyd says it's time for higher pay

New Jersey native Carli Lloyd is one of the most popular soccer players in the world.

The center midfielder who wears No. 10 for Team USA is coming off a high after wining the World Cup.

"It was surreal, " said Lloyd. "(The victory parade) was probably the second best thing," said Lloyd who scored a hat-trick in the final against Japan.

When she's not on the field representing the nation, Lloyd plays for the Houston Dash.

With her profile higher than ever before, Lloyd says her hard work and dedication to the sport is finally paying off-- literally.

"My agent is working really hard," said Lloyd who has several endorsement deals in place.

But while she's getting paid, the financial disparity between male and female professional soccer players remains staggering.

"There are girls in the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League) who make $6,000 for six months work. It's really hard. We need to continue to get that number up," said Lloyd.

One of the biggest contrasts in pay is that of the men's World Cup winning team and that of the women.

"Germany won the World Cup and made $36 million. We won and made $2 million, that’s a huge gap that needs to be increased," said Lloyd.
