NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City street will be named for a New York Police Department officer gunned down on patrol.
The intersection of 222nd Street and 92nd Road in Queens Village will be co-named "Detective 1st Grade Brian Moore Way." The City Council voted on it last week.
Moore, 25, and his partner were in Queens on May 2 when Moore was shot to death. Demetrius Blackwell has pleaded not guilty in Moore's death. Prosecutors say Blackwell was outside the NYPD patrol car, pulled out a .38-caliber gun and shot Moore twice. The 25-year-old officer was in a coma before dying two days later.
City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito says the city must remain resolute that violence against the NYPD is never acceptable.
